Buying Tips for Vinyl Flooring:

Type.
The first choice you'll need to make when it comes to vinyl is between the two different types: sheet vinyl, which is sold in rolls, and vinyl tiles. While both provide you with an equally-excellent flooring choice, roughly 85 to 90 percent of all vinyl sold today is sheet vinyl. That's because many people find the ability to do an entire floor all in one piece--without any seams--to be a highly attractive option.

Size.
Sheet vinyl generally comes in 6 and 12 foot widths. If the dimensions of your room require wider pieces, though, don't worry. Professionally installed, seams are virtually invisible. Plus, they'll be carefully sealed so that moisture can't seep through to your subfloor.

Shape.
While for a small rectangular room you might consider installing the vinyl yourself, for any room with a lot of twists and turns, you should probably rely on the professionals at

Floors We Do. Merely measuring an odd-shaped room can be tricky. You may also need to accommodate additional material to make sure that the pattern matches perfectly anywhere where you might end up having a seam.

Traffic.
Considering the amount of traffic your vinyl will have to stand up to in any room will make a major impact on what level of quality you end up selecting. In a guest bathroom that tends to gets infrequent visitors, for instance, you might very well get away with selecting more of a medium quality vinyl. As a general rule, you should feel free to put higher quality vinyl anywhere; but you should be very careful where you put lower quality material. Because ultimately, you should replace vinyl because you're tired of looking at that pattern--not because the vinyl is tired-looking itself.

Pattern.
Once you decide upon the quality of vinyl you need, we suggest only looking at the vinyl in that price range. Otherwise, you're liable to fall into the dreaded trap of falling in love within  a pattern that's only available in a lesser quality. While one would think that different patterns are available different levels of quality, unfortunately it doesn't work that way in vinyl.
